CCJs Hit A New High!

It has been reported that the number individuals served with a CCJ for non-payment of consumer debt rose to an all time high. This report is based on figures found during the first quarter of 2007.

Between the new year and March 2007, nearly 250,000 CCJs were issued. This reflects a 9.5 per cent increase on the total of recorded CCjs for the same period of 2006.

These new figures show this is the highest increase since the summer of 1997. During that period almost 248,000 CCJs were registered.

It is widely believed by many debt experts that the new CCJs figures are due to a combination of more households failing to keep financially afloat along with a willingness by lenders to use the courts as a way of reclaiming money owed to them.

The total number of all CCJs issued in the first quarter - including those served on businesses - was recorded at 296,841, up 9.1 per cent annually.
